Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Imagine a day spent thinking on things in your life that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. A day filled with thanksgiving and gratitude as you walk through it knowing that God is present in your life watching over each step that you take.
Now imagine the same day spent thinking about the lies others have told, the dishonesty you have experienced, the many injustices in life, the bad things being reported in the news. What a very different day that same day would be.
Which day do you want to live? The good news is, you get to choose!
Note- this doesn’t mean we walk around in denial of what is going on around us. There are people who lie, life is sometimes unjust, the world is a messy place. What it does mean is that we don’t ruminate on those things, rolling them over and over and over in our minds. We acknowledge them, we pray about them, (sometimes violently!), we take action as we are called, then we release them to God.
Lord, please help us to dwell on the good things that you have given us. When we face difficult circumstances, teach us to look to you. When we encounter difficult people, let us see them through Your eyes. When we encounter pain, cause it to bring us to our knees, thanking You that You are a good and merciful God, and that You are in control. Lord, we pray for the time, the strength and the discipline to renew our minds by reading your Word. In Jesus Name. Amen
